FAQ
  • Who is an ideal candidate for dermal fillers?
Dermal fillers are for patients seeking a non-surgical method of facial enhancement and want to avoid a prolonged recovery period or excessive downtime. Those considering treatment should be in good overall health and not be pregnant or nursing.
  • Why are there so many types of Juvederm and Restylane products?
The Juvederm brand (made by company Allergan who makes Botox) includes Juvederm Ultra, Juvederm Ultra Plus, Juvederm Voluma, Juvederm Volbella, and Juvederm Vollure. Likewise, the Restylane family of products (made by Galderma who also makes Dysport) includes Restylane-L, Restylane Lyft, Restylane Silk, Restylane Defyne and Refyne, and Restylane Contour. All of these products are made of hyaluronic acid but with different particle sizes. Various size particle fillers are best suited for different areas of the face and how you want them to look.
  • Does it hurt to get dermal fillers?
When you come for an appointment to receive a dermal filler product you will be numbed with a topical anesthetic for 20 minutes, you will be offered a vibrating distraction tool, and in the lip region a mini block with lidocaine is available. Generally speaking, different areas of the face have more or less nerves than others and are more or less painful. Typical feedback is that treatment under the eyes is not painful. Likewise treatment for cheeks is not very painful. Nasolabial folds (parenthesis lines from nose to mouth) are moderately painful as well as the marionette lines (from the corners of mouth downward) are moderately painful. The lip injections are probably the most painful considering all of the areas of the face for injections. However, Juvederm, Restylane, and Revaneese do have anesthetic in the injectable gel product itself.
  • Will I bruise or swell after getting dermal fillers?
Bruising and swelling are definite possibilities with any filler. We provide pre and post care instructions to you to minimize your chances of bruising as best we can. We will provide ice to you after your appointment to bring swelling down, and can advise natural supplements (arnica and bromelian) to aid in this process as well. Any swelling or bruising that does occur will normally resolve itself in one to two weeks. We encourage you to follow up with us if you have any concerns.
  • How much do dermal fillers cost?
We carry a range of different fillers for different facial areas and concerns. Most people use at least one syringe, depending on the area being treated. The longer-lasting the product is, the more expensive it is. As with Botox/Dysport, we advise a consultation with our Injector in order to get the most accurate quote of how much your treatment will cost.
  • How long do dermal fillers last?
It will always depend on what product you purchase, the area you are treating, as well as how quick your metabolism is. As a general rule, fillers last between 6-12 months. The thickest, most expensive fillers may last longer — generally 18-24 months. When you are treated, we can give you an estimate of how long your specific filler might last.
  • Will I see my results immediately after my appointment?
With filler, results can be instantaneous. Given that filler injections cover a larger area than Botox/Dysport, you may have some bruising or swelling that persists for a short while, particularly in the lip region. You can expect this swelling to go down and see true results after 2-4 weeks.
  • Does Botox/ Dysport hurt?
Most clients report little to no discomfort during the injection procedure, no more than a small pinch. We do offer topical numbing if you are anxious about the discomfort factor.
  • What is the downtime, recovery time after getting Botox/Dysport?"
Most clients go directly back to their day-to-day activities following treatment. You may get a few red bumps where the product is injected which will typically go down in about 30 minutes to one hour. We advise that you do not wear hats or lie flat for four hours after injections, refrain from any excessive physical activity the day of your treatment, and that you do not apply make-up over the injection points for 12 hours.
  • How long before I see my results from Botox/Dysport?
People receiving Dysport often see results in as little as 24 hours. Botox takes a little longer, between 24-72 hours to see first results. Full results can be observed at around fourteen days.
  • I just had Botox/Dysport and I don’t see the results I was hoping for. Can I come back for more?
Patients must wait fourteen days after their Botox/Dysport treatment to come in for a follow up. Re-treatment before the 14 day mark may result in facial asymmetry, as full results cannot be properly observed before then.
  • How much Botox/Dysport will I need?
Every face is different. A consult with our experienced Injector will allow us to accurately quote how many units you will need to achieve your desired result.
  • How long does Botox/Dysport Last?
Every patient is different. For most people, results begin to fade in three to four months.
  • What is Kybella and what is the price of Kybella?
Kybella is an injection treatment that is used to permanently reduce under chin fullness. It can also be used to effectively treat fullness in the jowls and bra fat. Tiny acid injections work over time to permanently destroy fat cells in the treatment area. Usually, 2-4 vials over two to three visits are required for optimal treatment. The solution is permanent, so once optimal treatment is achieved no future sessions will be required. The price of Kybella is based on how many vials you buy at once.
  • Does it hurt to get Kybella?
We numb the treatment area prior to getting Kybella injections. The under chin area injections do not hurt so much as the product itself does sting quite a bit for about 5 minutes. After a few minutes, the under chin area becomes quite numb and you will not feel any pain.
  • What is the downtime, recovery time after getting Kybella?"
There is typically no downtime after getting Kybella. You can expect that your under chin area will swell quite a bit and you will look worse before better. The whole process of the product eliminating the fat cells under your chin does take 4-6 weeks. Typically, people will need at least two to four treatments to see significant results.
  • How long after Botox/Dysport or dermal fillers do I have to wait to wear makeup?
Makeup is one of the most important things to avoid after your treatment. This is largely because your injection sites need to remain sterile and clear of all bacteria for at least six to 24 hours
  • What is the difference between Botox/Dysport and facial dermal fillers?
Although both treatments are used to combat the effects of the aging process, Botox/Dysport and dermal fillers differ in many ways. Botox/Dysport is derived from botulinum toxin, a purified protein that is used to temporarily disable movement in facial muscles that are prone to forming expression lines. By relaxing these muscles, the appearance of “crow’s feet,” forehead lines, frown lines, and more can be minimized. In contrast, dermal fillers work to rejuvenate the face through subtle additions of volume. They can be used to fill in creases and folds for a smoother facial appearance, or augment the lips, cheeks, and hands for added volume and contour. The substances that make up dermal fillers vary by each product, but the most popular fillers are comprised of hyaluronic acid—a naturally-occurring substance in the body that hydrates the skin and helps it appear more youthful.
  • Can I have dermal fillers and Botox/Dysport during the same visit?
Yes. For a total non-surgical facial rejuvenation, Botox/Dysport and dermal fillers such as Juvederm, Restylane, or Revanesse Versa are often used together during the same appointment. There is no harm in doing both treatments during the same visit.
  • How long after Botox/Dysport or dermal fillers do I have to wait for facial treatments?
We always advise that you have any facials or laser treatments on your face done before you have filler or Botox injected, so as not to shift or irritate the injected areas. If you have already been injected, we recommend you wait at least two weeks before having facial treatments.
  • How often should I undergo injectable dermal filler treatments?
The frequency depends on the type of injectable used and your unique skin tissue. One to four treatments per year is typical, although this is determined by which concerns you hope to address and the type of filler used.
